Birthday Boy!

Mitch's birthday was a couple of weeks ago and we had so much fun celebrating. Thanks to all of our friends and family who made it such a great day!

The Friday before his birthday, we had a little party in the park and had so much fun! I let Mitch open an early birthday present-a sweet volleyball set so we could use it at the party. The competition was pretty steep all night.

I made Mitch's favorite...oatmeal cake. He even blew out all the candles all by himself. He's getting to be such a big boy! 25 years old already... a quarter of a century! He has definitely made the most of those 25 years. I don't know why, but in every picture Mitch and I take together, it always looks like I'm punching him in the stomach. I'm really not.

After it got dark, we played night games which brought back so many great memories from growing up. I think I scared a lady who was walking her dog half to death when she came up on me hiding behind the cars. She stopped and looked at me crouched down creeping on the people in the park, then looked back at the people in the park and took a minute and thought about telling them that someone was creeping on them. I tried to look less suspicious and smiled and then I think she realized it was all just a game. Must not be very many night games going on in Houston. Or maybe it's just that it's more common  here to see someone creeping around cars than nightgames in the park?

We got lots of fun packages in the mail from Mitch's parents. Just take a look at this excited doctor.
Who asks for a reflex hammer and a tuning fork for their birthday?

As he was opening these, he was like, "sweet now I can do more tests on you Kels!" I thought to myself "oh no please not more tests." I just answered "Yes, I'm so excited about that. That will be wonderful." It's not too bad when he's doing the quick run through, but when he's doing the full out practice exam it can get annoying fast. It's sit up, lie down, turn over, sit down, lift this, lower that, and my favorite...don't let me push your leg down, now don't let me push your leg up. It's like a weight resistant work out! Oh it's the best. I like to be a really annoying patient and answer all his questions wrong. And every time he asks me if something hurts, I say yes. It's the best. Just picture him pounding that reflex hammer on my knee over and over, harder and harder, waiting for my lower leg to kick out. He claimed it was a defective hammer until our friend came over and figured out Mitch was just hitting my knee too high. I love being married to a med student!

Mitch loves games! His parents sent him Liar's Dice, a Peterson classic, from Amazon.  This game is timeless. Just look at the classic 80's hair in the picture. The game even came with Yahtzee instructions slipped inside as a bonus from the previous owner. Sweet deal!

I got Mitch just boring old clothes and shoes but the kid needed some new shirts! He would rather do anything in the world than go buy himself new clothes.

I love this 25 year old boy so much! I thought I would never love him more than I did when I married him but I keep finding more and more things I love about him. I am so grateful for all he does for me and the example he is to me. He is so unselfish and loves to serve. Even though he is super busy with school, he always makes sure that he spends time with me first. He is amazing!

  1. That volleyball set is awesome! We want one. :) Looks like an awesome weekend.

  2. I agree, he is amazing. And so are you. What a fun party! The story about the lady seeing you crouched behind the car made me laugh. You live in downtown Houston after all. Glad she didn't give you away.

  3. I know I'm glad too Patti. It would have cost me the game!

  4. I love it! My Mitch does all those kinds of tests on me too....and I am often a grouchy and/or stubborn patient :) Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes to tease during a practice exam!
