Bluebonnets and Bluebell ice cream- Texas traditions

Mitch had a lot time off during 4th year, and we definitely took advantage. The bluebonnets up the 290 were on our Houston bucket list every spring, but somehow we always missed it. Knowing this year was our last chance, we made sure we made the trip. It was so worth it! It was incredible!

For miles and miles, there are wildflowers lining both sides of the road, and then big patches every once in a while.

The Bluebell Factory was another thing on our bucket list. Brenham was a cute little town and the factory was fun to see.

The ice cream, oh the ice cream. Freshly made Bluebell ice cream was so tasty!

Rhett is 2!

Happy Birthday Rhetters! April 4th 2014 at 12:34 pm was exactly 24 months, 104 weeks, 730 days, and 17,520 hours after Rhett came into the world. It's crazy to think how quickly such a tiny person turned my world upside down, in the best and most unexpected ways. How can you love another person so completely, so perfectly, so unassumingly, not needing anything in return? No matter what, Rhetters will always have my whole heart. No matter what, I will always need to protect Rhett, and make sure he knows how loved he is. It breaks my heart that one day he will go to school without me and not need me anymore. But I do love watching him grow up!

How does time go so quickly? I can't believe I have a two year old! As much as I love newborns, I LOVE 2 year olds! Rhett is so much fun! He talks so much and is such a goofball. He loves friends and playing with them. As soon as he sees them, he starts giggling and goes and laughs right in their face. He loves cars, animals, rocks and balls the most. He is really into owls, witches, and ghosts for some reason (I think it was because of a book we got at the library). Rhett knows his shapes, colors, and some of his letters and numbers- mostly because he has a really good memory! He just learned how to give the best hugs, and calls them "squishy." He is also really into hitting me, spitting his food out, coloring on the walls/table/floor, and seeing what his boundaries are. Time out is just starting and not working so well. He loves his daddy, but is still a mama's boy.

Some of my favorite words/phrases that he says right now:
- "Its gonna be loud." whenever I take out the Bosch, blender, blowdryer, Rhett says this.
- "Playing, playing this." if I tell Rhett it's time to change his diaper or go down for a nap, Rhett tells me he's playing.
- "Busy."- Rhett tells me when he's too busy to do something I ask.
- "Ok" or "ahh yeah" "yeah yeah"- he answers his own questions. "Play cars? Ok" "Fruit snacks? yeah yeah"
- "Throw it far"
- "Runnin fast"
- "Ready, set go!"
- "Daddy's here! Mommy's here! Rhett's here!"
- "Louder"- the music always needs to be louder. "hotter"- always wants the water hotter.
- "Sorry, sorry"- if he's bumping into the table while he's trying to get around you.
- We ask him What do you want for lunch? "ahhhhhhhhh (for a long time) chicken? ham? cake? fruit snacks?"
- "Bless you"
- "Hey you!"
- "Love you!"- melts my heart.

Songs you know and sing along to:
-Twinkle twinkle
-Happy birthday
-Jesus' Baptism (currently your favorite)

The day before your birthday is your daddy's birthday! So it felt like a lot of partying.

You definitely thought the basketball was for you.

Your birthday started with balloons in your crib, a special birthday breakfast, an ob appointment for your mama and a chipped tooth while you were waiting with daddy :( , a zoo trip, lunch at Chick-Fil-A, opening presents, and cake with your friends that night.

Thanks goodness for Grandparents sending great gifts!

Happy 2nd birthday Rhetters! We love you! Now you can stop growing up.

Destin, Florida

Destin is definitely one of my favorite vacation places. It is one of the prettiest beaches I have ever been to. We went there to celebrate the end of medical school! I can't believe four years have come and gone. Mitch has worked so hard and studied so many hours. This was the perfect relaxing end to it all.

The first couple of days were a little chilly and rainy, but nothing Rhett couldn't handle. I don't think the temperature ever affects Rhett. He always ends up getting completely wet at the beach.

There were tons of jellyfish in the water and on the sand the first day which was kind of scary but fun to see them. Rhett kept wanting to touch them and would say, "squishy, squishy."

We rented a beach house with three other couples in med school and it was perfect! Two minute walk to the beach, tennis courts, swimming pool, everything we could have wanted.

Rhett loved his first tennis lesson. Mostly he just chased the balls around and threw them over and over again.

Rhett learned the walk to the beach pretty quick. The whole way there he would be chanting, beach beach beach.

Rhett would wake up, head to the beach and play for a few hours, eat lunch at the condo, then head back to the beach, take a nap on the beach, wake up and play some more on the beach. He was in heaven!

So fun partying with this crew. Crazy that ten days after we got back, the Ences had their baby, and in a week, the Heaps will have their baby!

Baytowne Wharf- we ate dinner here at a cute restaurant overlooking the bay.

Sunday family pictures. Not a good idea for Rhett. He hates pictures in the first place and was so mad that he couldn't just play on the beach.

See his mad face in this picture.

This is just a classy famiy pic. And it makes me laugh so hard every time I look at it. My hair is blowing into Rhett's mouth, and Mitch looks like a leprechaun because he thought it was going to be a close up pic and wanted to make our heights more even.

After the first couple of cold days, the rest of the trip we had gorgeous weather! We rented bikes and rode along the boardwalk and Rhett loved it!

We kayaked which didn't work out as we planned. First, we watched our friends' baby while they went out and he did great. But then we tried to leave Rhett with our friends and freaked out watching Mitch and I paddle away on a little boat. We waited to see if he would stop screaming, but even after ten minutes, we could still hear him crying from the shore.

Change of plans, Rhett joined us in the boat and loved paddling with us in the shallow water.

For our last night, we just got pizza and ate it on the beach so we could be there for the sunset. It was a perfect way to end the trip. Such a beautiful night!

And Rhett just couldn't keep the secret anymore about baby #2!
This last trip will have to last us a while, because residency is coming quick! Who knows when we'll get Mitch to ourselves for a whole week again?
